Plybox UK

Specialists in CNC cutting and plywood product manufacture.

Materials

We primarily work with Plywood and MDF but we can also accommodate sheet wood.

We love plywood so much we named our company after it! Plywood is an attractive, engineered wood made from thin sheets of veneer. It is commonly used instead of timber because of its strength and superior resistance to shrinkage, cracking and warping. Suitable for CNC machining, plywood has a warm surface that is naturally attractive when left unpainted but takes surface finishes, such as oils, varnishes and paint, very well.

Birch Plywood

This is the type of plywood that we most commonly work with. It is the ultimate renewable source with virtually every part of this fast growing tree being suitable for some use. The sap can even be used to make wine! We only source our birch plywood from sustainable sources that are FSC certified with a comprehensive chain of custody to ensure transparency. So, if you would like to know where your sheet of plywood started life, please ask!

Manufactured to a high quality, birch plywood is widely used for furniture, construction, storage, display solutions, packaging and even high-tech wind turbine blades (although no one has ever asked us to CNC one of these - yet).

Spruce Plywood

A softwood that is often more economical than birch, spruce plywood is a multi-purpose material that is up to 20% lighter than many alternatives, whilst maintaining similar strength characteristics and resistance to humidity. It is softer and less hardwearing than birch but its soft light colour makes it popular for use in interior design and it is commonly used for furniture, storage, packaging, walls and floors.

We only use spruce sourced from a PEFC certified supplier.

MDF

Sometimes an engineered wood such as MDF (Medium-Density Fibreboard) is a better fit for your price point and structural needs. Generally denser, and therefore heavier, than plywood it can be used in a similar way. It doesn't have the attractive grain pattern featured on plywood or natural wood, and so generally looks best when painted. Also suitable for CNC manufacture, it is commonly used for doors and interior panelling.

The largest size board we can machine is 2440 x 1220 mm.
